I’m excited to let you know about a mission trip I'm taking in early 2023 to Rome Italy. I’m going with Thrive, a Denver based ministry dedicated to encouraging North American women in cross-cultural service and mission work. One way they do this is by hosting these retreats throughout the world. I am hoping you will read more here and decide to serve with me through prayer and/or financial support.
I need to raise at least $4,520 to cover my travel, lodging, food, etc. I’m trying to reach $2500 by end of October, $3500 by end of November, and the full $4250 is needed by January 1st so final payments can be made. Anything donated above my costs will be applied toward covering a global worker’s expenses to attend the retreat. (See links below)
In 2019 I served as worship leader and prayer group leader at a Colorado Thrive retreat. One of the women came up to me after worship one morning and tearfully told me it was the first time she had worshiped in her native language in 7 years! That of course blew my mind. And the stories I heard from many of them who had to remain out of photographs due to the sensitive and risky places they live are embedded forever in my mind as I still pray for them.
So a few facts for you… Did you know that for North American women serving in other cultures nearly 47% leave the field before year 5? And up to 80% are gone by year 8? Much of this drop out is a result of emotional, relational, and spiritual burnout. The need that many women feel for friendship, spiritual fellowship, and encouragement from those who understand their experiences can seem nearly impossible to meet when living in another culture. Thrive has been investing in women on the mission field for 25 years and has worked closely with more than 700 mission agencies. Along with countless churches and volunteers they have offered care for close to 32,000 North American women serving overseas. Now I have been invited to serve as the worship leader this February as we host a retreat in Rome Italy. We will be welcoming more than 100 women to rest, connect, hear teaching from the Word, worship in English, have time with professional counselors and more. Some of these women have families, some are single, but all are in need of the holistic care they will receive at the retreat.
