After spending a couple nights in my hometown, watching my niece graduate and hanging out with the family last week, CL and I headed for Nashville…

Day #1 – This was actually day 2, but we didn’t work the first evening when we arrived… Instead we went to see Paul and some guys (Art Four Sale) play at Franklin Mercantile and then strolled the streets of Franklin. The Nashville area is as full of Cicadas as it is good musicians right now! Yes, it’s the year of the Cicada… Which makes for some excellent people-watching. From a distance you can’t see the cicadas and people just seem to randomly jump, duck, and flail their arms while exclaiming one thing or another. Makes for some great laughs… And provided a good break from traveling all day.

The next morning began day #1 in the studio for this trip. After CL fixed some great breakfast, Paul and I headed to the studio and said goodbye to daylight for much of the day. While that wouldn’t sound appealing to some, we are of that strange segment of humaninty that is excited to create music and record it and spend hours doing so even if we miss the sunshine. Of course, I can only take that for so long. Not sure I would ever make it in Alaska. It was a great day making music though! In just a couple of hours I finished writing a song that I had written only a few lines of a month or two ago, along with a melody, and some chords. We got the foundation of the song recorded… Now we can start building it. After that block of work, some great tacos at a wonderful little place called “Lupe” we headed back for another block in the studio and it happened again! Excellent day! We started work on another song already written and finally abandoned ship late into the night.

Day #2 – Woke up, ate some Kashi Toasted Berry Crumble (my fav cereal), drank some Indian River orange juice (been to Indian River before!), brewed coffee (tres tres important), and went in back in to work on “Wrapped Up” … – a song that a lot of you have said you would like to have on a cd… And it’s coming along!

For the rest of this day we will wrap up (no pun intended – “Wrapped Up”), get a Publix sub (no Publix in KY! What’s up with that?), finish working through another song and see what happens…

And to those of you on the email list I’ll try to send out a clip or two for you to enjoy soon!
